LOOK THE PART!

Look The Part!

Monica M. Burns

Often, some fall victim to the latest and trendiest outfits, hairstyles, makeup, etc. There isn’t anything wrong with wearing the trendiest items of the moment; after all, we all love the many, many new designs and styles popping up all over. But, there is a time and a place for every wardrobe item, and you need to dress according to the occasion.

If you are going on a Job Interview for a Professional Position, would you wear blue or purple hair, even if your hairstylist told you that it’s a great cut? Look around, there aren’t any people in Corporate America with outrageous hairstyles or hair colors. If you conducted research beforehand and found information on the company stating that the company does not approve of certain types of braids, would you still go to the Job Interview, if you knew your braids were violating the company’s rules? I am all for culture diversification and individuality in the workplace and everywhere else, but if you know the rules, look the part! There are Dress Codes at most companies and they have the right to enforce them. Some may call it discrimination, but it’s called projecting a professional appearance and representing the company in which you work for, in a positive manner, according to the rules set forth in the company’s policies and procedures.

Everyone should be individualistic as well as confident in their individuality. There is a time and place for everything in life. There are rules each of us must follow on a daily basis. If you want more out of life and you know that current look is holding you back from reaching your potential, “Change Your Look!” What are you seeking from life? What are your long-term plans? Now is the time to incorporate a “look” that’s all your own (individuality), which can be modified for different occasions.

Whatever you decide to do with yourself, just make sure you look the part for each occasion. For your Job Interviews, dress accordingly, it’s just common sense, especially if you really want the job. For dates, if you don’t want to seem desperate and promiscuous, don’t show too much skin. It’s quite okay to dress sensual and sexy, I am all for it….but, if you are going to wear a revealing shirt, you need to have your bottom area covered, and if you are wearing a short mini skirt, then your top area must be completely covered. It’s called projecting sexiness and sensuality without trying too hard. Bottom Line……Choose a Look and Image That You Are Confident Will Carry You Through Life.
